Vale travelled to Bexhill in the latest Sunday game. In what was very hot conditions it would have been a nice change to win a toss but true to Darren's form with the coin, he lost! So out we went against a strong Bexhill batting side and with limited bowling resources.
After getting a early wicket Vale then struggled with Neil Priddy and his partner Bhati smasing the ball to all parts of the main road. When Bhati went for 57 Bexhill were on their way to a large total. Neil Priddy carried on his merry way towards his century which he duly got. The Vale bowlers tried in vain to slow the score up but on a very good batting track it was difficult. Jim Vale picked up two late wickets one of which was Priddy who got 120. Bexhill finally finished on 239.
After a lovely barbeque tea vale started strongly in pursuit of the large total. Chris Brook and Adam Wickens put on 54 inside 7 overs but after Chris went for a quick 42 the scoring rate slowed. To their credit all the Vale batsmen put in determined efforts. Wickens 31 and a career best 35 from Steve Border kept the score ticking but in all honesty a draw was the most likely outcome. C.Kirkham 24 and Dinesh 23 also contributed well. Vale finished some 55 runs short.
The match was played in a friendly spirit and a good day was had by all.
