Clive Vale continued their 100% start to the season with a fourth straight win. This time the unlucky opposition were Beckley. Vale again won the toss and had no hesitation in putting in their hosts. The decision looked dicey early on as Beckley put on 40 inside 7 overs without loss. The first wicket soon put the brakes on the scoring. Neverless Beckley were still scoring around 5 an over. Wickets soon started falling with the help of some some sharp catches, the best of which came from a diving Steve Border. The hosts had quite a long tail and ended up 40 or so runs short of a competitive total. Wicket takers were young Liam Stamp who again bowled well taking 3/32, Steve Brook 2/26 and Guy Wenham 3/32 who demonstrated a good recovery considering his first over went for 20!! Beckley finished by making 169-9.
Chasing a moderate total Vale openers Andy Hayes and Steve Border themselves racked up 50 inside 8 overs with man of the match Steve Border going on to make his maiden fifty with the help of some lusty blows. When he eventually fell for 53 Clive Vale were on 90 in only the 13th over. Wickets then started to fall and an air of panic descended on the Vale dressing room as some players who had already got changed into their evening attire, thinking that the game was virtually won, had to re-dress into their whites. Hayes 30, Rama Patel 22, Robert Potter 12, Guy Wenham 19 and Dinesh 11 and two fine blows from Matt Bowles to finish the game, ensured that Vale won by 3 wickets with plenty of overs to spare.
It was then back to the Rose and Crown in Beckley for a quick half before we departed home.
