Ten men Vale travelled to sun baked Polegate on Sunday for a 40 over game, hoping to continue their unbeaten run.
Polegate won the toss and asked Vale to take first knock. As has happened on many occasions this season Vale's method of trying different opening partners failed again. Struggling on a very uneven and dry pitch, Vale were again indebited to skipper Carl Brook who arrived with the score at 12/2. His 89 which included fourteen fours and three sixes, ensured Vale would post a more than adequate total. Good support came from Steve Brook 22, Andy Hayes 17, Robert Potter 14 and a very good 35 from Guy Wenham which included two straight sixes.
Polegate's reply started brightly moving to 25 for no wicket off 5 overs. Vale opening bowler Robert Potter 2-14 grabbed two quick wickets to stem the flow. Man of the match Carl Brook then took 5-42 which included a mixture of good balls and full tosses. Good catches came from Chris Whiting and Guy Wenham as Polegate were never really up with the rate. Other contributions with the ball came from Chris Brook 1-19, Guy Wenham 1-17 and Simon Shephard who took his maiden wicket for the club with 1-8.
