Clive Vale travelled to Westfield for the second time this season. With Vale having won the first game earlier this year, Westfield were no doubt keen to make honours even between the two teams.
Westfield won the toss and with a batting line up as strong as an ox and as long as the Great wall of China, it wasn't surprising that they opted to bat first in sunny conditions on what looked to be an easy paced wicket.
Boundaries flowed quickly with sixes coming as early as the second, third and fourth over’s as the Westfield batsman looked to dominate the Vale bowling attack. The onslaught from the Westfield batsman however gave Vale some chances which were taken as Liam Stamp (2-52) and Jake Beale (1-24) removed the top three to reduce Westfield to 29-3. Some quality batting from B.Payne (101) and D.Payne (85) took the Westfield total to a well deserved 243 at the end of their 40 over’s with bowling contributions also coming from Perry Harding (0-35) and Carl Brook (1-38)
Given the quality of the opposition, Vale were happy with the total that they had to chase down. Andy Hayes (41) and Perry Harding (23) hit some nice shots to keep Vale just behind the asking rate. Steve Brook (51) and Chris Brook (28) formed a good partnership but when both were run out, Vale could not hold on and succumbed to their first loss of the season 43 runs short of the target. All the Westfield bowlers chipped in with C.Coombes (1-50), R.Lade (1-33), P.Harrod (1-27), B.Payne (3-32), C.Tong (1-23) and D.Corke (1.21) taking the wickets.
It was then back to the pub for some grub and a quick half.
