A beautiful summer Sunday afternoon at Robertsbridge was the setting for a contest between Roberstbridge and Clive Vale.
With Vale batting first, stand in skipper Carl Brook led from the front, smashing his way to 113, including 14 fours and 4 sixes, keeping the lost ball searchers busy for most of the innings. He was supported in a partnership of 63 by his brother Steve (29) and was eventually dismissed by a good catch from Emmett off the bowling of Mitchell. Matt Bowles remained on a defiant 10 not out at the end. Best Robertsbridge bowling performances came from Green (6-1-17-2), P Goodsell (3-0-11-1) and A Neill (5-1-12-1).
In reply Robertsbridge started briskly, with opener P Goodsell carrying his bat for 83, supported by R Goodsell (45), A Neill (13) and Emmett (13 not out). Vale efforts came from overseas guest “TJ” (3-0-13-1) and Darren “Razzle” Stamp, who gave his wicket keeping gloves to Steve Brook and then took a superb return catch off his own bowling to claim the best Vale figures of the day (4-0-12-1).
